I started learning Kathak at the tender age of 6, and have never looked back since! I was exposed to the arts very early on. My mother introduced me to dance. Along with that I was also made aware of drama and literature, which has had a huge impact in my personal development. I have trained extensively in the Rohini Gharana, named after the great Kathak maestro Guru Rohini Bhate which amalgamates the fiery style of Jaipur with the subtle Lucknow.
Since a very young age, I participated in various competitions, which boosted my confidence and took me closer to the art form. I have given various performances, both solos and in groups and have also won a few accolades. I took a Bachelors degree in German language and Literature and have recently completed my 'Masters in Dance' from Bharati Vidyapeeth University. Due to my interest in the research and academics of dance, I also went on to persuing my Alankaar in kathak. As a part of my extensive abhinaya training, I attended the 'Navarasa Sadhana workshop' by Guru Venu. G which has opened up a whole new dimension of looking at my form.
I had a keen interest in teaching since a very young age, and hence started at 16. So, with a teaching experience of more than 10 years I have had the opportuniy to work with varied age groups from different communities. I was invited by a dance school based in London to offer workshops and performances and demonstrations for a period of 4 months. Over there I experienced the strength and impact that classical dance can have on young minds, and got to work with a different set of people. I have also worked with the differently abled, thoroughly enjoying it and look forward to continuing my facilitation journey.
Choreographies and characters have always amused me. I have always been an ardent observer, a quality that now helps me in my thematic work. I started exploring my form through sets of syllables and classical music tunes. So, creating a new idea and shaping it into a choreography is very exciting for me. With 'Shikhandi' I discovered my choreographic ability leading to a sense of abstraction through the medium of classical dance.

I aspire to continue working on relevant contemporary themes through my form, breaking boundaries while still keeping the traditional context alive.
